Describe the moment you received your Stanford admission decision.
I was sitting at the dining room table with my laptop open and my younger sister in front of me. As I was scrolling through my emails one subject line read: Your Admission Decision. It was from Stanford. Inside my head I thought, "OMG, this is it." I opened the email, frantically searching for any key words that might indicate acceptance, and my eyes finally settled on the word "CONGRATULATIONS." "I'm in, I got in!" is what I thought to myself as a deep sense of pride and gratitude welled up in my chest. I quickly turned to my sister. "I got accepted into Stanford!" She jumped up and screamed at the same time, as did I. I called my dad to tell him the news - no answer, just a voice mail. I called my brother - no answer, as his mailbox hadn't been set up yet. I rushed to the back of the house, barging into my twin’s room. She was sleeping. For a split second I wondered if I should let her sleep - that thought didn't last long. Shaking her, I yelled, "I got into Stanford!" She looked at me, startled and half awake. "Good," she said, rolled over, and pulled the blankets over her head. "OK, I'll talk to you later. Night!" I said as I dashed out of the room. I went back to the table with my younger sister, blasted some music, and celebrated. Everyone else eventually got on board.
What are some of the activities you are involved in at Stanford?
With the organization HABLA, I tutor Stanford custodial staff in English and sometimes provide teaching instruction. Through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (IV), I lead a regular, weekly bible study and serve as part of IV's Vision Team. I am part of the Questbridge community on campus and really enjoy getting to spend time with other Questies through events and discussions.
Why did you choose Stanford?
It was my best option - honestly, it boiled down to the fact that I knew I would receive a world class education and have access to outstanding programs.
What are your two favorite extracurricular activities?
Working out at the gym and watching Scandal. I love to keep my energy up, but also really appreciate resting!
What is your favorite off-campus destination?
What is your favorite place to eat on campus?
The Treehouse, hands down.
What is your favorite book?
Currently, My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor.
