Tips & Advice for Admit Weekend

Main content start

With hundreds of events and about 3,500 admitted students and guests, Admit Weekend can be a lot! Think about what you hope to get out of the weekend, then take some time to create your own schedule in the Admit Weekend app.

Stanford will feel like home before you know it, but for now, we want to help you make the most of these few days on the Farm. So we asked Admit Weekend Coordinators (current students) for the advice they’d pass on to admitted students, and things they wished they’d known before arriving at Stanford.

Admit Weekend Advice, direct from our Admit Weekend Coordinators:

  1. Pack a light jacket or a cozy sweater! It gets chilly in the early morning and evening.
  2. SHOWER SHOES!!!!
  3. Bring a sleeping bag and a pillow to make your stay more comfortable. Your room host won’t necessarily be able to lend you any bedding.
  4. Pack light! Remember, if you're staying on campus then you’ll be in a current student's room, and there might not be too much free space.
  5. Stanford’s main campus is 1,292 acres (approximately 975 football fields)! Bring comfortable walking shoes for the exciting weekend.
  6. One of Stanford’s most unique traditions is fountain hopping! Make sure to bring something you’re comfortable getting wet in case your dorm goes.
  7. Practice reciting your name, pronouns, hometown, and potential major.
  8. Try our many dining halls across campus! A favorite is Wilbur for Pho almost every day.
  9. Be sure to spend some time alone this Admit Weekend. Choosing what college to attend can be a very individual (and stressful!) choice — don’t be afraid to take some space for yourself!
  10. Stanford loves their lingo! Here are some of the most popular words used:
    • ProFro (Prospective Frosh)
    • RoHo (Room Host)
    • HoHo (House Host)
    • CoHo (Coffee House)
    • The Dish (a popular walking/running trail)
    • EQuad (Engineering Quad)
    • Nearrillaga aka ACSR (gym on East Campus)
    • 5-SURE (hand out free snacks and water on weekend nights)
    • Lake Lag (lake bed & trail by Lagunita Court)
    • Llaga aka AFDC (dining hall on East Campus)
    • LSJUMB (Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band)
    • The Marg (The Marguerite, our free university shuttle service)
    • MemAud (Memorial Auditorium)
    • MemChu (Memorial Church)
    • Farrillaga aka AOERC (gym on West Campus)
    • On Calls (weekend events hosted by dorm RAs)
    • TAP (The Axe and Palm fast food in Old Union)
  11. Locations are usually listed in the format of 160-124. The first number is the building, with the second being the room number. So, the above example would be Building 160, Room 124. Generally, the first digit of the room number specifies the floor level: 0XX for the basement, 1XX for the first floor, etc.
  12. Be mindful of others on the paths and roads! Classes often end 10 minutes before the half-hour (i.e. 12:20, 12:50), so watch out for bike traffic & stay on the sidewalk.
  13. Drop your luggage at the Visitors Center before 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 and then head to Maples Pavilion for the Cardinal Closing Celebration. Just remember to pick up your luggage before 2:00 p.m.!
  14. Stay hydrated!
  15. Get ready to dance.
